VITATEKA Goose Fat is a 100% natural cooking fat with no additives, obtained from free-range geese. Goose fat is one of the classic cooking fats: it is used both in good restaurants and in home kitchens to prepare a wide range of dishes. The jar holds 210 g.

In this article we look at the composition and nutrition, and explain how to cook with goose fat and how to store it.

Composition and nutrition

The composition is extremely simple — 100% goose fat, with no additives. The product is obtained from free-range geese and contains no GMO, preservatives or allergens.

Nutrition per 100 g:

  • energy — 3758 kJ / 898 kcal;
  • fat — 100 g, of which saturates — 26 g;
  • carbohydrate — 0 g, of which sugars — 0 g;
  • protein — 0 g; salt — 0 g.

As the figures show, saturates make up about a quarter, while most of the fat is unsaturated fatty acids — this is what sets goose fat apart among animal fats. It contains no carbohydrate or sugar.

Why goose fat is valued in the kitchen

Goose fat has a rich taste and aroma that it passes on to dishes. It tolerates high cooking temperatures well, so it suits frying and roasting. In European cuisine, goose fat is the traditional base for confit and the famous potatoes roasted in goose fat.

How to cook with it

  • Roasting — potatoes, root vegetables and vegetables come out golden and fragrant in goose fat;
  • Confit — slow cooking in fat is a classic French technique;
  • Frying — meat, poultry and vegetables in the pan;
  • Enriching dishes — a spoonful of fat adds flavour to porridges, stewed vegetables and fillings.

You can use goose fat in place of your usual oil wherever you want a richer flavour.

Storage

Store refrigerated at +2…+6 °C, in a dry place protected from light and out of the reach of children. The best-before date is on the pack.

External use

Besides the kitchen, goose fat is also traditionally used externally — this is a separate way of using it. If skincare interests you, the VITATEKA range includes a body cream with goose fat.

Who it suits

  • Lovers of home and European cooking — for roasting, confit and frying;
  • Those who avoid additives — a 100% natural composition, with no GMO or preservatives;
  • Those who watch the composition of their dishes — the fat contains no carbohydrate, sugar or salt.
