Eleo Milk Thistle Seed Flour from the Altai Specialist range is a speciality dietary food flour produced from ground milk thistle seeds (Silybum marianum). Milk thistle (Silybum marianum, also known as marian thistle) is a biennial or annual plant of the Asteraceae family native to southern Europe, the Mediterranean and western Asia, now widely cultivated for its seeds. Milk thistle seeds are uniquely rich in a flavonoid complex called silymarin, which consists predominantly of silibinin (silybin), silydianin and silychristin. Silymarin is fat-soluble and concentrated in the seed. In addition to silymarin, milk thistle seed flour is a good source of dietary fibre, plant protein and unsaturated fatty acids including linoleic acid (omega-6). The flour has a characteristic slightly bitter, mild herby taste that complements cereals, smoothies and savoury dishes.

ALTAI SPECIALIST Eleo Milk Thistle Seed Flour is a food flour made from finely ground milk thistle seeds. People usually choose this kind of product when they want to enrich meals with more fibre and plant protein, while adding variety to porridge, smoothies, yoghurt or savoury dishes. It has a mildly herby, slightly bitter taste that works best when mixed into other foods rather than used on its own like regular baking flour.

Milk thistle, also known as Silybum marianum, has a long history of use in European and Mediterranean herbal traditions. In this flour, the seed naturally provides several notable components: dietary fibre, plant protein, linoleic acid and a flavonoid complex called silymarin. In simple terms, silymarin is a group of plant compounds found in the seed, including silibinin, silydianin and silychristin. Because these compounds are concentrated in the seed itself, grinding the whole seed into flour keeps them as part of the food.

The nutritional profile is what makes this product practical in an everyday diet. Fibre helps make meals more substantial, plant protein adds to the overall nutrient value of breakfast or snacks, and the naturally present unsaturated fats contribute to the seed’s characteristic composition. This makes milk thistle seed flour a good fit for people who like to build simple, functional meals from pantry staples instead of relying only on plain cereals or white flour products.

It suits those who enjoy adding small amounts of specialty seed flour to smoothies, porridge, soups or yoghurt, especially if they appreciate more bitter, botanical notes in food. It can also be combined with other flours in home cooking, though its flavour is usually better as an addition than as the main base. If you are new to milk thistle, starting with a modest amount can help you get used to the taste.

As this is a concentrated seed product, it is sensible to use it as part of a balanced diet rather than in large amounts. People who react to plants from the Asteraceae family, such as chamomile, ragweed or marigold, should be cautious. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking regular medication or have questions about herbs in your menu, it is wise to check with a healthcare professional.
