"ORIGINAL HERBS" Koirohi 30 g is dried wormwood herb (Artemisia absinthium) — one of the most recognisable bitter plants in European herbal tradition. The pack contains 30 g of cut, air-dried aerial parts suitable for preparing infusions and herbal teas at home.
Wormwood owes its character to a group of intensely bitter compounds called sesquiterpene lactones, the best known of which is absinthin. When the herb meets the tongue, these bitters trigger taste receptors that, in turn, prompt the digestive system to release more saliva, gastric juice and bile. This is the classic mechanism behind so-called "bitter herbs" (amara) — they prepare the stomach for a meal and may help people who feel heaviness, sluggish digestion or low appetite after eating fatty food. Wormwood also contains essential oils, flavonoids and tannins, which add a mild astringent and aromatic character to the brew.
The plant has a long history in European herbalism. It is mentioned in medieval monastic gardens, in the works of Hildegard of Bingen, and it gave its name to the famous spirit absinthe. In Estonian folk practice koirohi was traditionally used as a bitter tonic before meals and as an ingredient in herbal blends for the stomach.
The Original Herbs version is straightforward dried raw material — no fillers, no extracts, no additives. A typical way to use it is as a weak infusion: a small pinch of the herb is poured over with hot (not boiling) water, left to steep for a few minutes and then strained. Because the taste is genuinely intense, most people drink only a small cup, often shortly before eating. The herb is also used in small amounts in homemade bitter blends together with other digestive plants such as gentian, dandelion root or yarrow.
A few cautions are worth keeping in mind. Wormwood is a strong bitter and is not meant for long, continuous use — short courses with breaks are the usual approach in herbalism. It is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, for young children, or for people with active gastric or duodenal ulcers, gallstones or known allergy to plants of the Asteraceae family. If you take prescription medication or have a chronic condition, consult a pharmacist or doctor before adding bitter herbs to your regimen. This product is a herbal raw material, not a medicine, and does not replace a balanced diet or medical treatment.
