Chaga is a parasitic fungus that grows on birch trunks across the northern boreal forests and has been brewed in Siberia and Northern Europe for centuries. Its dark infusion is rich in melanin pigments, polysaccharides (including beta-glucans) and polyphenolic compounds absorbed from the host birch. In traditional use chaga tea was the everyday drink of foresters and hunters — a warm, coffee-coloured brew with a mild earthy taste and no caffeine.
Siberian ginseng (eleuthero) is a thorny shrub from the Far East taiga. It is classified as an adaptogen — a plant group studied for helping the body adjust to physical and mental load. Eleuthero contains eleutherosides, plant compounds that differ from those in true Panax ginseng but follow a similar logic of use: a tonic herb traditionally taken in cooler seasons or during periods of higher workload, training or long mental focus.
The combination in this blend is balanced rather than stimulating. Chaga gives the tea its deep colour, body and gentle mineral notes; eleuthero adds a warm, slightly woody undertone and the tonic character it is known for. Because the tea contains no caffeine and no theine, it fits both morning and afternoon scenarios — as a hot brew on its own, with a slice of lemon, or with a spoon of honey once the cup has cooled a little. Many people in the Baltics enjoy such taiga blends as a seasonal alternative to black tea during the dark autumn and winter months.
This is a herbal tea, not a medicine, and it is not intended to diagnose or treat any condition. Adaptogenic herbs such as eleuthero are generally not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding, for children, or alongside certain medications (for example blood pressure or blood-thinning therapy). If you take prescription drugs or have a chronic illness, please consult your doctor or pharmacist before adding this blend to your regimen, and start with a moderate amount to see how your body responds.
