Sea Buckthorn Oil 250ml is a 100% pure, cold-pressed sea buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides) seed and berry oil — a premium culinary vegetable oil from Ukraine. Sea buckthorn oil has one of the most distinctive and complex fatty acid profiles of any plant oil, containing both omega-3 (alpha-linolenic acid), omega-6 (linoleic acid), omega-7 (palmitoleic acid) and omega-9 (oleic acid) fatty acids, as well as carotenoids (including lycopene and beta-carotene), tocopherols (vitamin E) and phytosterols. The oil has a characteristic rich orange-red colour and a tangy, slightly tart taste from its natural carotenoid and phytochemical content. Sea buckthorn oil is used as a finishing oil to dress salads, cold dishes and ready-prepared foods, where it adds a distinctive flavour note and beautiful golden-orange colour. Not intended for high-heat frying. Shake before use. Store refrigerated after opening. 250 ml.

Customer Questions
How should I use sea buckthorn oil in everyday cooking, and how much is typical?
Sea buckthorn oil has a vivid orange-red colour and a distinctly tart, fruity flavour that can dominate a dish if used heavily. Most people treat it as a finishing oil rather than a base oil: add it after cooking, just before serving. A typical starting amount is 5–10 ml (roughly one to two teaspoons) per portion, which is enough to give colour and flavour without overwhelming the other ingredients. It pairs well with neutral bases — cottage cheese, Greek yoghurt, quark, or a simple vinaigrette made with a milder oil such as rapeseed or light olive oil. Try stirring a teaspoon into a cold sauce for fish, drizzling over steamed root vegetables or buckwheat, or mixing into a grain bowl with roasted beetroot and goat cheese. Because the flavour is strong, many users blend it 1:3 or 1:4 with a neutral oil for everyday dressings. The 250 ml bottle gives you plenty of scope to experiment; once opened, keep it refrigerated and use within a few months for best colour and aroma.
Why is this oil not recommended for frying or high-heat cooking?
The oil is cold-pressed from both sea buckthorn seeds and berries, a process that avoids the high temperatures used in refined oil production. This preserves heat-sensitive components — notably the carotenoids (beta-carotene and lycopene) that give the oil its intense colour, the tocopherols and phytosterols naturally present in the raw material, and the unusual fatty acid profile that includes omega-7 (palmitoleic acid) alongside omega-3, 6 and 9. When heated above roughly 130–140 °C these compounds begin to oxidise and break down: the colour fades, the tart aroma turns bitter, and the nutritional profile that makes the oil distinctive is diminished. For this reason the producer explicitly positions it as a cold-use oil. If you need a cooking fat for sautéing or roasting, use a stable, high-smoke-point oil (such as refined rapeseed, ghee or coconut oil) and finish the plated dish with a drizzle of sea buckthorn oil instead. This way you get the functional benefits of a heat-stable cooking fat plus the colour, flavour and nutrient contribution of the sea buckthorn oil where it matters — on the plate.
What makes the fatty acid profile of sea buckthorn oil different from other culinary oils?
Most common culinary oils are dominated by one or two fatty acid families: olive oil is high in omega-9, sunflower oil in omega-6, flaxseed oil in omega-3. Sea buckthorn oil is unusual because the combined seed-and-berry press yields a natural blend of omega-3 (alpha-linolenic acid), omega-6 (linoleic acid), omega-9 (oleic acid) and a meaningful amount of omega-7 (palmitoleic acid). Omega-7 is a monounsaturated fatty acid found in only a handful of plant sources — notably macadamia nuts and sea buckthorn — and is a structural component of skin and mucous membranes. The oil also delivers carotenoids (beta-carotene, lycopene), tocopherols (vitamin E family) and phytosterols, all of which occur naturally in the berries and seeds and survive the cold-press process. This combination means a small daily amount can diversify the fatty acid intake of a diet that otherwise relies heavily on omega-6-rich refined oils. It is not a supplement with standardised percentages; the exact ratios vary by harvest and batch, but the breadth of the profile is consistent. Use it as a culinary accent rather than a primary fat source, and you add a range of fatty acids and phytonutrients that are hard to obtain from a single bottle of any other kitchen oil.

Organic Oil Sea Buckthorn Oil 250 ml is a cold-pressed culinary oil made from sea buckthorn seed and berry. People usually choose this type of oil when they want more than a neutral cooking fat: it brings a vivid orange-red colour, a pleasantly tart note and a broader nutrient profile than many common vegetable oils. It is best used as a finishing oil for salads, grain bowls, cottage cheese, yoghurt-based dressings or ready meals that need a bright, fruity accent.

What makes it interesting

What makes sea buckthorn oil especially interesting is its naturally varied fatty acid composition. Alongside omega-3 and omega-6, it also contains omega-7 and omega-9. In simple terms, these fats become part of cell membranes and are involved in how the body uses and transports lipids. Sea buckthorn is particularly known for omega-7, or palmitoleic acid, a fatty acid found in relatively few plant oils.

Naturally present components

  • Omega-3 and omega-6 — part of the oil's varied fatty acid composition.
  • Omega-7 (palmitoleic acid) — a fatty acid found in relatively few plant oils.
  • Omega-9 — completing its broad fatty acid profile.
  • Carotenoids — including beta-carotene and lycopene, which give the oil its intense colour.
  • Tocopherols and phytosterols — naturally present in the raw material.

A traditional food valued for its taste

Sea buckthorn has a long tradition of use in Northern and Eastern regions, where the bright berries have long been valued as a concentrated food. In oil form, this plant is appreciated both for its taste and for the fact that cold pressing helps preserve delicate compounds that do not benefit from high heat. That is why this product is better suited to cold dishes than frying: heating can weaken some of the components that make the oil appealing in the first place.

How to use it

This food oil suits people who enjoy functional foods and want to diversify their menu with small but meaningful additions. Because the flavour is distinctive, many prefer to start with a modest amount and combine it with milder oils. A little can be:

  • added to a salad;
  • stirred into a cold sauce;
  • drizzled over steamed vegetables after cooking;
  • used to finish fish or buckwheat.

Good to know

If you are sensitive to sea buckthorn or trying it for the first time, begin cautiously and discontinue use if any unwanted reaction appears.
