What LEKRASET Chicory Roots Are
LEKRASET chicory roots are dried roots of common chicory, a traditional herbal raw material used to prepare a warm infusion. People usually choose chicory when they want a mild bitter herb for digestion-friendly herbal teas or when they are interested in classic plant ingredients with a long history of use in food and herbal practice.
Key Components and How They Work
The root of Cichorium intybus is naturally rich in beneficial plant compounds:
- Bitter substances – These are valued because they stimulate taste receptors on the tongue, which can encourage the body's normal digestive response, including the release of digestive juices.
- Inulin – A non-digestible fibre that passes further into the gut, where it can serve as nourishment for beneficial intestinal bacteria. This is one reason chicory root is often associated with a balanced diet and a lighter feeling after meals.
Traditional Preparation and Simplicity
What makes this product appealing is its simplicity: this is not an extract or an instant drink, but 100% dried chicory root. That format suits people who prefer traditional herbal preparation and want to make an infusion themselves. Chicory also has a long European history as both a food plant and a drink ingredient, especially in roasted form as a coffee alternative. In herbal use, the root is appreciated for its distinctly bitter, earthy profile.
Suitability and Important Notes
LEKRASET chicory roots may suit someone who:
- Enjoys classic herbal teas.
- Wants to diversify their menu with plant-based fibre sources.
- Is looking for a caffeine-free bitter infusion to include with meals or during periods when heavier foods are common.
Because herbs can affect people differently, it is wise to use chicory thoughtfully. If you:
- Are prone to allergies to Asteraceae plants.
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- Have ongoing digestive sensitivity.
it is sensible to check with a healthcare professional before regular use.

Customer Questions
LEKRASET Chicory Roots are the whole, dried root pieces of the chicory plant (Cichorium intybus). This means you are getting the unprocessed herbal raw material. To use it, you prepare a traditional infusion by steeping the root pieces in hot water, then straining them out, much like brewing loose-leaf tea.
The flavor of an infusion made from dried chicory root is distinctly bitter and earthy. This bitterness comes from the plant's natural bitter substances, which are part of its traditional appeal for digestive support. It is milder than very strong bitter herbs but more pronounced than a typical herbal fruit tea.
Inulin is a type of soluble dietary fibre found naturally in chicory root. When you steep the dried root pieces in hot water to make an infusion, some of this inulin will dissolve and be present in the liquid you drink. This contributes to the drink's potential dietary fibre content.
