Water temperature and timing: Use water heated to just below boiling (around 90-95°C). Because the tea is granulated, it infuses faster than loose herbal teas - 3 to 5 minutes is typically enough for a strong brew. Steeping longer won't make it stronger and may bring out bitterness.
Caffeine content: Yes, this tea is naturally caffeine-free. It's made entirely from narrow-leaf fireweed (ivan chai), which contains no caffeine compounds. This distinguishes it from traditional black or green teas, and even from some herbal blends that may contain caffeine from added ingredients.
Flavor characteristics: The fermentation process rounds out the natural grassy notes of fresh fireweed, creating a smoother, more tea-like taste. Expect earthy, slightly malty undertones with a depth that's closer to black tea than to delicate herbal infusions like chamomile or mint.
