The rich texture, which does not run, is handy precisely for targeted use — the product stays where it has been applied and does not need to be rubbed in quickly.
The main difference lies in texture and how the product behaves on the skin. Gels usually have a light, watery base: they absorb quickly, feel cooling and leave almost no trace. A balm is richer: it spreads more slowly, stays on the surface of the skin longer and also softens it — this is especially noticeable on dry or rough areas such as knees, elbows or heels.
