Vaseline 25 g by Tverskaya Pharmaceutical Factory is a classic protective ointment for very dry, rough or easily irritated skin. How it works
Petrolatum works in a straightforward way: it forms a thin occlusive film on the skin. This layer slows down transepidermal water loss, so the skin can retain more of its own moisture. It does not “hydrate” in the same way as creams with humectants, but it helps keep existing moisture from evaporating too fast, which is why many people apply it after washing or over a lighter product. Because of this, vaseline is often used on areas that become dry quickly, such as:
- Lips
- Hands
- Elbows
- Heels and other spots that dry out fast

This film slows down transepidermal water loss, meaning the skin can retain more of its own moisture instead of letting it evaporate quickly. It does not hydrate the skin in the same way as creams with humectants like glycerin or hyaluronic acid; rather, it acts as a barrier that keeps existing moisture from escaping. That is why it is often applied after washing or over a lighter product to lock in hydration.
To get the most benefit from Vaseline, apply it to clean, dry skin. For best results, apply it after washing or showering, when the skin is still slightly damp. This helps the skin retain the moisture it already has. Use a thin layer – a thin layer is enough. You can apply it to specific dry areas such as elbows, hands, or heels. For hands, you might apply it before bed and then wear cotton gloves to allow it to work overnight.
Vaseline can be used on the face, but with caution. Because it is a dense, thick ointment, it may feel too heavy for the whole face, especially if you have oily or combination skin. It is best suited for specific dry patches, such as the corners of the nose, the cheeks, or the lips. Many people also use it as a lip balm.
