Maca is a perennial cruciferous plant (Brassicaceae) native to the high-altitude plateaus of the central Andes of Peru and Bolivia (growing at 3500–5000 m elevation), where it has been cultivated and consumed as a food for thousands of years. The maca root is a naturally good source of B-group vitamins (B1, B2, B6, B12), vitamin C, minerals (calcium, phosphorus, iron, copper, zinc) and naturally occurring amino acids.
