Milk thistle extract capsules No. 60 - Fortex

The seeds of spotted milk thistle contain fatty oil, essential oil, chromones, resins, biogenic amines, and a unique complex of flavonolignans, the main ones being silybinin, silydianin, and silychristin. It is precisely the complex of flavonolignans, called silymarin, that determines the biological activity and hepatoprotective action of milk thistle and preparations made from it, including extracts from seeds and milk sap.

The hepatoprotective action of silymarin from the fruits of milk thistle is due to its antioxidant and membrane-stabilizing properties. Excessive accumulation of lipid peroxidation products is one of the leading pathogenetic mechanisms of liver cell (hepatocyte) damage. This leads to damage to the lipid layer of cell membranes and cell destruction. Silymarin prevents the accumulation of lipid hydroperoxides, thereby reducing the degree of liver cell damage. In addition, by stabilizing the cell membrane of hepatocytes, silymarin slows down the entry of toxic substances into them (both exogenous and endogenous). Silymarin also activates metabolism, resulting in the normalization of liver protein-synthetic and lipotropic functions.

Recommended for:

• toxic liver damage (alcoholism, intoxication with halogenated hydrocarbons, heavy metal compounds, drug-induced liver damage) and their prevention;
• chronic hepatitis;
• cirrhosis of the liver (as part of comprehensive therapy);
• conditions after infectious and toxic hepatitis; liver dystrophy and fatty infiltration;
• correction of lipid metabolism disorders.
