Farmgrupp Fytokardiokompleks Herbal Tea is an Estonian-brand herbal tea blend from Farmgrupp, combining four traditional botanicals — peppermint leaf (Mentha piperita), hawthorn fruit (Crataegus sanguinea, blood-red hawthorn), motherwort herb (Leonurus quinquelobatus, five-lobed motherwort) and valerian root (Valeriana officinalis). Peppermint leaf is a well-known aromatic herb, the primary contributor to the pleasant taste and refreshing aroma of the blend. Hawthorn fruit (haws) provide bioflavonoids including vitexin and oligomeric proanthocyanidins. Motherwort (Leonurus) has been used in European traditional herbal practice for centuries. Valerian root is a traditional herbal ingredient associated with relaxation and sleep support in European wellness practice. Available as 20 filter bags of 1.5 g each for convenient infusion preparation.

Contains hawthorn — see warnings for cardiac medication interactions.

Customer Questions
How do I prepare this herbal tea and how strong should I make it?
Place one filter bag (1.5 g) in a cup or teapot and pour 200–250 ml of water that has just come off a full boil. Cover the vessel — a saucer on a cup or a lid on a pot — and let it steep for 10 to 15 minutes. Covering prevents the more volatile aromatic compounds from peppermint and valerian from escaping with the steam. After steeping, gently squeeze the bag against the side of the cup to release the remaining infusion, then remove the bag. The resulting tea will have a light amber colour and a minty, slightly earthy aroma. If you prefer a milder taste, shorten the steep to 7–8 minutes; for a stronger extraction of the hawthorn and motherwort constituents, go the full 15 minutes. Do not microwave the tea bag or re-boil the infusion, as prolonged high heat can degrade the more delicate polyphenols in hawthorn and the essential oils in peppermint and valerian.
When during the day is it best to drink this tea, given the valerian content?
Valerian root is widely recognised for its mild sedative effect, which typically appears 30–60 minutes after consumption and can last a few hours. For most people, the blend is therefore best suited to the late afternoon or evening — for example, after work to mark the transition into personal time, or 30–60 minutes before bed as part of a wind-down routine. If you are trying it for the first time, start with one cup on an evening when you do not need to drive, operate machinery, or make critical decisions afterwards. Some users find they can tolerate a cup in the mid-afternoon without noticeable drowsiness, but this varies. Peppermint and motherwort do not have a stimulating effect, so the blend does not counteract the valerian. If you need a daytime herbal tea without sedation risk, a pure peppermint or lemon balm infusion would be a more appropriate choice.
Can I drink this tea while taking medication for blood pressure or heart rhythm?
Hawthorn fruit contains bioflavonoids such as vitexin and oligomeric proanthocyanidins that have been studied for their influence on cardiovascular pathways. Because of this pharmacological activity, hawthorn can potentiate or interfere with prescription medicines used for hypertension, heart failure, arrhythmia, or anticoagulation. The interaction is not merely theoretical — clinical guidelines and pharmacovigilance reports list hawthorn as a botanical that may alter the effect of beta-blockers, calcium-channel blockers, ACE inhibitors, digoxin, and blood thinners. Even though this product is a tea rather than a concentrated extract, the cumulative daily intake of hawthorn constituents can be meaningful if you drink one or two cups regularly. Therefore, if you are on any cardiovascular medication, do not start this tea without first discussing it with the prescriber or a clinical pharmacist. They can assess your specific drug regimen, monitoring plan, and whether a low-dose herbal tea is acceptable or should be avoided.
Is this tea suitable during pregnancy or while breastfeeding?
Neither valerian root nor hawthorn fruit has been systematically studied in pregnant or breastfeeding women, and traditional herbal references generally advise caution or avoidance during these periods. Valerian’s mild sedative compounds can cross the placenta and may be excreted in breast milk, while hawthorn’s cardiovascular activity raises theoretical concerns for uterine tone and maternal blood-pressure regulation. Motherwort has a history of use as a uterine stimulant in some folk traditions, which is another reason for caution. Peppermint leaf is commonly consumed as a culinary herb, but in the context of a multi-herb blend the overall safety profile is determined by the least-studied components. The manufacturer’s labelling explicitly recommends consulting a doctor or pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or considering giving the tea to an adolescent. Until you have that professional assessment, it is prudent to choose a single-herb tea with a well-established pregnancy safety record, such as rooibos or ginger, rather than this combination product.

What it is

Farm Group Fytokardiokompleks Herbal Tea is a herbal tea blend chosen by people who prefer traditional plant-based options when they want a calmer, more balanced feeling during tense periods. This Farmgrupp herbal tea combines several botanicals in convenient tea bags, making it easy to include in a regular tea regimen.

Key components

Each plant has a slightly different role in the blend:

  • Peppermint leaf — mainly here for its fresh aroma and pleasant taste, giving the infusion a lighter, easier-to-drink character.
  • Hawthorn fruit — has a long history in European herbal use and is valued for its naturally occurring bioflavonoids, including vitexin and oligomeric proanthocyanidins. These compounds are of interest because they interact with plant polyphenol pathways linked with circulation and oxidative balance.
  • Motherwort herb — another traditional European botanical, often selected in blends intended for moments of nervous tension or emotional strain.
  • Valerian root — best known as a relaxing herb, commonly used when a person wants to unwind in the evening or settle after a demanding day.

What makes this herbal tea interesting is the combination itself: hawthorn and motherwort are classic partners in traditional herb practice, while valerian adds a more settling note and peppermint keeps the taste softer and more approachable. Because it is a tea rather than a capsule, the experience is also part of the appeal: a warm infusion can suit people who enjoy a slower ritual and prefer herbs in a familiar drink form.

When people choose it

This kind of blend may suit adults who want a non-medicinal herbal option for:

  • stressful periods;
  • a busy workday;
  • a quiet evening.

Some people choose it seasonally, while others use it as part of a one-month course and then return to it when needed. It is not meant to replace prescribed therapy.

Important notes

  • Please use extra caution if you take heart, rhythm or blood pressure medicines, as hawthorn can interact with them.
  • Valerian may cause drowsiness in some people.
  • If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, under medical supervision, or choosing a herbal tea for a teenager, it is sensible to check with a doctor or pharmacist first.
