Bio National Pepper Green Tea is a spiced herbal tea blend from the GrinLab/Bio National range, combining allspice (Pimenta dioica), black pepper (Piper nigrum) and liquorice root (Glycyrrhiza glabra) in a caffeine-free base for a bold, warming and aromatic cup with an exotic spice character. Allspice (Pimenta dioica) is an evergreen tree from the Myrtaceae family native to the Caribbean and Central America, whose dried berry provides one of the most complex spice aromas known — it contains eugenol (the same key aromatic compound as cloves), along with caryophyllene, methyleugenol and other terpenes, giving a combined aroma reminiscent of cloves, cinnamon and nutmeg simultaneously. Black pepper (Piper nigrum) provides the characteristic pungent heat from piperine and the aromatic depth of caryophyllene and beta-pinene. Liquorice root (Glycyrrhiza glabra) provides the distinctive sweet, aniseed-like taste from glycyrrhizin and its aglycone glycyrrhetinic acid. The combination creates an intensely aromatic, warming, slightly sweet-spicy blend with a distinctive depth of flavour.
