ORGANIC ALTAY Maarjaohakaõli on külmpressitud piimaohaka seemnetest valmistatud taimeõli, mis on Altai mägede piirkonnas tuntud kui üks väärtuslikumaid toiduõlisid. Piimaohakas (Silybum marianum) on Vahemere päritolu taim, mida on sajandeid kasutatud Euroopa ja Aasia rahvameditsiinis ning mille seemned on tänapäeval üks paremini uuritud taimseid toorained maksaga seotud küsimustes.

This oil should not be used for frying, sautéing, or any cooking that involves heat. Cold-pressed oils like this one retain heat-sensitive bioactive compounds — tocopherols, phytosterols, polyphenols, and the flavonolignan complex silymarin — precisely because they are extracted without heat. When you expose the oil to high temperatures, these compounds break down, and you lose the antioxidant properties that are the main reason for choosing milk thistle oil in the first place.
Cold-pressed oils are more vulnerable to oxidation than refined oils because they retain natural antioxidants and polyunsaturated fatty acids (like linoleic acid, omega-6) that react with oxygen and light. Once you open the bottle, store it in the refrigerator with the cap tightly closed. The cold temperature slows down oxidation significantly. Aim to finish the bottle within two months after opening — the oil will not spoil suddenly, but its flavor, aroma, and the stability of bioactive compounds (silymarin, tocopherols) decline as oxidation progresses.
Milk thistle contains silymarin, a group of flavonolignans that can influence the activity of certain liver enzymes (cytochrome P450 family) responsible for metabolizing many prescription medications. This means that milk thistle may alter how quickly your body processes some drugs, potentially increasing or decreasing their effects. Medications that are commonly flagged for interactions include blood thinners (e.g., warfarin), hormonal contraceptives, immunosuppressants, statins, and some antidepressants and anti-anxiety medications.
The ORGANIC label indicates that the milk thistle seeds used to make this oil come from certified organic agriculture — no synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or chemical fertilizers were used during cultivation. This matters for oils in particular because fat-soluble pesticide residues can accumulate in the final product. Choosing organic reduces your exposure to these residues.
