INDIAN HENNA Indigo BASMA is a plant-based hair colouring powder used to create cooler, deeper-looking tones in herbal hair colouring. Indigo deposits a blue-toned pigment on the outer layers of the hair, which is why it is often used to reduce the warm copper effect of henna or to move the result toward chestnut, brown or dark brown shades.
The exact result is individual. Natural base colour, previous colouring history, hair porosity and the application method all affect the outcome. On naturally brown or dark hair, indigo basma may help deepen or cool the shade. When combined with henna, it can help create richer brown tones rather than a bright red-orange henna result. On very light, bleached or heavily damaged hair, the result may be less predictable, because porous hair can grab pigment unevenly or show cooler tones more strongly.
If you are aiming for a specific shade, do a strand test before applying it to all of your hair. Test on a small hidden section or collected hair from your brush, using the same method and timing you plan for the full application. Check the colour after rinsing and again after it has had time to settle, as botanical colour can look different once the hair is dry and the pigment has finished developing.
