The permanent hair colouring process works through an oxidative chemistry mechanism: the alkaline dye cream is mixed with a hydrogen peroxide developer immediately before application; in the alkaline pH environment, dye precursor molecules penetrate the hair cortex and are oxidatively coupled to form stable, large chromophore molecules that are permanently fixed within the cortex. The formula contains rice protein, which has a film-forming and conditioning effect on the hair cuticle, sealing the cortex, increasing colour retention and providing shine. The included post-colour fixing balm is enriched with vitamins and keratin to provide conditioning, smoothing and strengthening of the hair shaft after the colouring process, countering the structural protein changes induced by the alkaline and oxidative chemistry of the dyeing process.
