To produce clove essential oil, unopened flower buds are first dried and then processed by steam distillation. When making oil from clove tree fruits, they are harvested during the ripening period, in which case their aroma and spicy taste become identical to the buds.
To obtain one kilogram of clove essential oil, you need up to eight kilograms of buds or up to fifteen kilograms of clove tree fruits.
The main component of clove oil (up to 85%) is eugenol, which is used in various industries, including the perfume and tobacco industry, pharmaceuticals, dentistry, and even in the development of insect repellents. Another feature of clove essential oil is that it does not evaporate quickly.
