What This Balm Is
JutaVit Hobusepalsam JAHUTAV 500 ml is a cooling body balm for skin after exercise, long hours on your feet, travel, or a physically demanding day. It is not a medicinal product, but a topical cosmetic that helps the skin feel pleasantly refreshed and lighter after exertion.
Key Ingredients and How They Work
The cooling effect comes mainly from two active components:
- Menthol — interacts with cold-sensitive receptors in the skin, so the area feels cooler even without lowering body temperature very much.
- Camphor — adds a brisk, stimulating sensation; commonly used in rubs and gels intended for use after sport or massage.
Together, they create the classic "cooling balm" effect. The formula also includes:
- Eucalyptus and rosemary aromatic oils — enhance the fresh feel during application.
- Aloe, chamomile, arnica and lemon balm extracts — commonly added to skin-conditioning products.
The balm spreads well for self-massage and leaves the skin feeling revived rather than heavy or greasy. The large 500 ml format is convenient for regular use on different body areas.
When People Choose It
This cooling horse balm suits active people, those with physically demanding work, and anyone who enjoys a refreshing body product in the evening. Typical situations include:
- After sport or training
- After a long walk or hike
- After gardening or outdoor work
- After desk work with muscle stiffness
- After commuting or a long day of standing
- Whenever the muscles and skin feel overheated and tired
Important Notes
- If you have very sensitive skin, try a small amount first.
- Avoid irritated skin, eyes, and mucous membranes.
- Menthol- and camphor-based cosmetics can feel quite intense on delicate areas.

Customer Questions
The cooling effect comes from menthol and camphor interacting with sensory receptors in the skin, not from an actual temperature drop. Menthol binds to TRPM8 receptors — the same ones that respond to cold temperatures — so your brain registers a cooling sensation even though skin temperature barely changes. Camphor adds a stimulating, slightly prickly feel that many people describe as "invigorating." Together they create the classic horse-balm experience: a brisk, spreading coolness that peaks within a minute or two and then fades gradually over 15–30 minutes. Because the effect is neurological rather than thermal, you can safely reapply once the sensation fades if you want it longer. The eucalyptus and rosemary oils amplify the fresh aroma during application, while the aloe, chamomile, arnica and lemon balm extracts are there for skin-conditioning — they help the balm feel comfortable rather than drying as the volatiles evaporate.
If you know your skin reacts to strong cosmetics, start with a pea-sized amount on the inner forearm or just behind the knee — areas with thinner skin but not mucous membranes. Wait 10–15 minutes. A mild tingling or cool flush is normal; burning, stinging that increases, redness that spreads, or itching means this formula isn't right for you. The menthol and camphor concentrations in horse balms are typically high enough to irritate very sensitive or atopic skin, especially if the barrier is already compromised (recent shaving, sunburn, eczema flare). Avoid applying on broken skin, fresh wounds, rashes, or anywhere near the eyes, lips, and genital area. If the test patch feels fine, you can use it on larger zones like calves, thighs, lower back, or shoulders. Wash hands after each application so you don't accidentally transfer product to your face or eyes.
The balm spreads best on clean, towel-dry skin — so after a shower is ideal. The skin is warm and slightly hydrated, which helps the product glide and absorb without dragging. Many users apply it in the evening after sport, a long shift on their feet, or a day of desk-related stiffness, because the cooling sensation and aromatic oils (eucalyptus, rosemary) can feel mentally refreshing as well as physical. If you shower in the morning and want the effect for the day, that works too — just give it a few minutes to absorb before dressing, as the oils can leave a light residue on tight synthetic fabrics. Avoid applying immediately before bed if you find the menthol aroma stimulating; some people love it for winding down, others find it keeps them alert. There's no strict frequency limit for cosmetic use, but 1–2 times daily on the same area is typical. If you're also using a moisturizer, apply the balm first, let it sink in, then follow with your usual lotion if the skin feels dry afterward.
This is a cosmetic cooling balm, not a medicated analgesic, so it doesn't contain NSAIDs, lidocaine, or capsaicin. That means it generally won't interact chemically with magnesium sprays, arnica gels, or OTC pain-relief creams. However, many of those products also contain menthol or camphor for sensory effect. Layering several mentholated products at once can amplify the cooling sensation to the point of irritation — especially on thinner skin (inner arms, neck, behind knees). A practical approach: if you use a magnesium spray, apply it first on clean skin and let it dry (5–10 minutes). Then apply the balm for massage and the cooling feel. If you use a medicated gel (ibuprofen, diclofenac, etc.), follow the gel's own label — usually it wants clean, product-free skin and a wait time before covering. Don't apply the balm over a fresh medicated layer unless your pharmacist or doctor says it's fine. And always wash hands between different products to avoid cross-contamination of active ingredients.
