Caucasian Dioscorea Roots (Lekruset) consist of 100% dried roots of the Caucasian yam (Dioscorea caucasica), a climbing perennial vine native to the forests of the Caucasus Mountains. Dioscorea caucasica is related to other Dioscorea species used in traditional herbal practice worldwide and is a natural source of steroidal saponins — principally diosgenin glycosides — as well as starch, protein, and other phytochemicals characteristic of this family of plants.
