Vitamin A is a fat-soluble vitamin, which means that, unlike water-soluble vitamins, any excess is not excreted in the urine but accumulates in the tissues. This makes the question of total intake particularly important.
Since vitamin A is fat-soluble, it is recommended to take the capsules with a meal or immediately afterwards — especially if the meal contains fat. This could be vegetable oils, nuts, avocado, dairy products or any other source of fat. Taking them on an empty stomach or with a meal completely lacking in fat can reduce absorption.
Vitamin A accumulates in the liver and adipose tissue, so uncontrolled long-term intake is undesirable for everyone — but there are groups who should be especially careful.
