Vitamin A is a fat-soluble vitamin, which means that, unlike water-soluble vitamins, any excess is not excreted in the urine but accumulates in the tissues. This makes the question of total intake particularly important.
If you already take a multivitamin, check its composition: many complexes contain retinol or beta-carotene (provitamin A). Adding up several sources can lead to exceeding the recommended amount. Likewise, pay attention to complexes for eyesight — vitamin A is often one of their ingredients.
Vitamins E and A are often combined in a single product because they interact during absorption. If you take them separately, bear this in mind when choosing doses.
As for food: liver, fish oil, dairy products and eggs contain preformed retinol, while carrots, pumpkin and leafy greens contain beta-carotene, which the body partly converts into vitamin A. If your diet is varied and includes these foods, discuss additional supplementation with a specialist.
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have a chronic condition or take medicines, consult a specialist before you start taking it.
