Turmeric, or yellow root, gives food a beautiful golden yellow color and ensures an exciting taste experience. Turmeric is a relative of ginger, originally from India. It is also part of curry powder and is especially widely used in Indian cuisine, as well as in the savory dishes of Southeast Asian cuisines.

Turmeric is primarily used as a seasoning, but at the same time it is also a medicine. The yellow color of turmeric is due to the active ingredient curcumin (polyphenol), which is the basis of being a miracle drug. Turmeric has a high vitamin E and C content and is rich in minerals.

Turmeric is ideal for use in meat, vegetable and rice dishes and baked goods. Turmeric gives food a particularly mild oriental taste.

What It Is

KURKUM JAHVATATUD 100G - INDIA is ground turmeric, a classic spice used to give food a warm golden colour and a gently spicy, slightly bitter taste. People usually choose turmeric when they want to add more depth to savoury dishes, vary familiar recipes, or bring Indian and Southeast Asian flavour notes into home cooking without using complicated spice blends.

Key Compound and Culinary Character

The best-known naturally occurring compound in turmeric is curcumin, a yellow plant polyphenol that gives the root its characteristic colour. In plain language, polyphenols are plant substances valued for their antioxidant activity: they help protect plant tissues, and in nutrition they are appreciated as part of a varied diet rich in colourful ingredients. Turmeric also belongs to the same botanical family as ginger, which helps explain its warming, slightly earthy profile. As a ground spice, it is easy to distribute evenly in food, so even a small amount can colour a wide range of dishes.

How to Use It

Turmeric has a long culinary history in India, Central Asia, China and Southeast Asia, where it has been used for generations not only for taste but also for the visual character it gives to meals. It works well in:

  • Soups, rice, stews, lentils and sauces
  • Curries, grain bowls, marinades and egg-based meals
  • Smoothies or warm drinks when a more earthy flavour is desired

It pairs especially well with black pepper, ginger, garlic and coconut milk.

Practical Considerations

This product is best seen as a versatile food ingredient rather than a concentrated supplement. It suits those who want to experiment with spices, broaden their menu, or keep a traditional seasoning on hand for regular cooking. A few things to keep in mind:

  • If you are sensitive to strong spices, start with a small amount, as turmeric has a distinct taste.
  • Turmeric can stain kitchen textiles and surfaces.
  • If you follow a medically restricted diet or use herbal products in larger amounts, consider the overall fit of such ingredients in your eating habits.
