In supplements zinc comes in different chemical forms: oxide, sulfate, gluconate, citrate, picolinate and others. The difference between them lies in which molecule the mineral is bound to and how easily the body absorbs it.
According to the label, you take 1 capsule a day with a meal or with water, so zinc can be taken both with a meal and separately — the choice depends on individual tolerance. If your stomach is sensitive, it's better to take the capsule with food: this reduces the likelihood of discomfort or nausea, which sometimes occur when zinc is taken on an empty stomach.
The main thing to pay attention to when taking them together is the total amount of zinc from all sources. Many multivitamin complexes already contain zinc, often at a dose of 8–15 mg. If you add 22 mg from Swanson capsules to that, the total dose may prove excessive for daily intake.
