R.O.C.S. Whitening is a polishing toothpaste, not a chemical bleaching treatment. Its main role is to polish away surface stains that build up from coffee, tea, red wine or smoking, so teeth look lighter and smoother after regular brushing.
R.O.C.S. Whitening is fluoride-free and contains no antiseptics. Its cleaning and polishing action comes from two components: the Mineralin complex, which is described as helping maintain strong hard dental tissues, and fine silicon dioxide microparticles that buff away external stains from the enamel surface.
Use a pea-sized amount on a damp brush and brush for the usual two minutes, making sure you cover all surfaces. Twice a day is a sensible routine for a polishing toothpaste. There is no need to press hard: the silicon dioxide microparticles are designed to do the polishing, so heavy scrubbing increases the risk of irritating the gums or wearing exposed tooth surfaces.
This toothpaste is intended for adults, and for most of them it is a normal daily cleaning product. However, because it works through mechanical polishing, it contains fine abrasive particles. This is what helps remove external stains, and it is also the reason it is not automatically suitable for every mouth.
