Monoi de Tahiti is a traditional Polynesian cosmetic oil produced in French Polynesia by macerating the blossoms of Tiaré gardenia (Gardenia taitensis) in refined coconut oil (Cocos nucifera) — traditionally by Polynesian women for use on skin and hair. Tiaré gardenia is a fragrant flower endemic to the Society Islands of French Polynesia and is one of the key botanicals of traditional Polynesian culture. The fragrance of Monoi is recognisably floral, light and tropical. Coconut oil in Monoi provides lauric acid and caprylic acid — short-chain saturated fatty acids with high skin and hair penetration — which condition the skin and protect it from moisture loss. The delicate floral fragrance is characteristic and long-lasting. The formula is enriched with coconut oil and honey extract for additional nourishing, barrier-supporting and skin-softening action.
