Customer Questions
How does this colouring shampoo differ from permanent hair dye or a tinted conditioner?
This product is a deposit-only colouring shampoo. Unlike permanent dye, it does not contain ammonia or peroxide, so it cannot lighten hair or permanently alter the internal pigment. The colour sits on the outer layers of the hair shaft and rinses away gradually over several washes. Compared with a tinted conditioner, it contains a higher concentration of direct dyes and a foaming base that helps distribute pigment more evenly from roots to ends during the wash step. The format is designed for people who want a visible tonal shift — here a wine-toned burgundy — without the commitment, mixing, or processing time of a full dye kit. It is applied on wet hair like a shampoo, left on for the processing time indicated in the leaflet, then rinsed. Because it does not open the cuticle chemically, the result is less predictable on very porous or bleached hair, where pigment can grab more intensely. Think of it as a refresh tool between salon visits rather than a permanent colour change.
What result can I expect on my current hair colour — medium brown, light blonde, or grey hair?
The final shade depends on your starting colour, porosity, and percentage of grey. On lighter or pre-lightened hair (light blonde to light brown), the burgundy pigments show up more saturated and vivid, giving a noticeable red-violet tone. On medium brown hair, the same pigments appear deeper and more muted, adding a subtle wine reflection rather than a strong colour shift. Grey or white strands are highly porous and lack underlying pigment, so they tend to absorb colour more strongly; the burgundy can look brighter and more intense on those areas, which helps blend regrowth but may also create a slight highlight effect. If your hair is very porous, bleached, or heavily grey, the tone develops faster and can end up stronger than expected. A strand test on a hidden section — following the leaflet timing — is the only reliable way to preview the result on your specific hair before committing to a full application.
How should I apply it for the most even result, and why is a strand test recommended?
Wet hair thoroughly, then apply the shampoo generously. The foaming texture is intentional: it helps you spread the pigment evenly through the lengths, which is harder with a cream or gel. Massage to create foam and work it from roots to ends, ensuring grey areas and porous ends are fully covered. Leave it on for the processing time stated in the enclosed leaflet — do not guess or extend the time, as deposit-only dyes continue to build while on the hair. Rinse thoroughly until water runs clear. A strand test is strongly advised before the first full use, especially if you have lightened hair, high porosity, or significant grey. Cut a small hidden section, apply product exactly as directed, rinse, dry, and assess the tone. This tells you whether the burgundy will read as a subtle gloss or a strong red-violet on your base, and whether grey strands turn brighter than the rest. If your scalp is sensitive or you have reacted to hair colourants before, do a patch test 48 hours ahead as well. Always follow the leaflet precautions.
How long does the colour last and what affects how quickly it fades?
Because the pigments only coat the outer cuticle and are not oxidised into the cortex, the colour is temporary and washes out progressively. Most people see a visible tone for roughly 4 to 10 shampoos, but this varies widely. Highly porous or bleached hair holds pigment longer initially but may also release it unevenly as the cuticle swells and contracts. Frequent washing, especially with clarifying or sulphate-heavy shampoos, strips the deposit faster. Hot water opens the cuticle more than lukewarm, so cooler rinses help retention. Heat styling (blow-dryers, straighteners) and UV exposure also degrade direct dyes. To extend the refresh, use a gentle, colour-safe shampoo between applications, limit heat, and consider a UV-protective leave-in if you spend time in the sun. Re-application is safe whenever the tone fades — just repeat the strand test if your hair condition has changed (e.g., new highlights, chemical treatment). The product is not a substitute for permanent colour if you need full grey coverage or a lasting shade change.

What it is

Victoria Beauty Juuksevärv Shampoo "Burgundia" 40ML is a colouring shampoo for people who want to refresh their hair tone without switching to a classic permanent dye. The Burgundy shade is intended for hair from medium brown to light blonde and gives a richer, wine-toned result, while also helping to blend and cover visible grey strands. This format is often chosen when hair looks dull, the colour has faded between salon visits, or you want to try a deeper red-violet nuance with less commitment.

How it works

The product works by depositing colour on the hair during washing and processing time. Unlike an ordinary shampoo, it is not used mainly for cleansing: the key role here is to let colour pigments attach to the outer layers of the hair shaft. Because of this, the final result depends on your starting shade, porosity and the amount of grey hair:

  • Lighter or pre-lightened hair: Burgundy can appear more vivid and saturated.
  • Medium brown hair: it usually looks deeper and more muted.
  • Grey hair: often takes up colour strongly, so the effect may look brighter on those areas.

When people choose it

What makes a colouring shampoo convenient is its in-between format: it is simpler than full hair dye, but gives a more visible tonal change than a tinted conditioner. It can suit someone who wants to:

  • revive colour at home;
  • add shine to lengths that have lost intensity;
  • make grey regrowth less noticeable for a while.

The foaming texture helps distribute the product through the hair, which can make application easier, especially if you want an even result from roots to ends.

Important notes

For the smoothest outcome, it is worth thinking of this as a shade-refreshing hair colour product rather than a standard wash step. If your hair is very porous, bleached or heavily grey, the tone may develop faster and stronger than expected.

  • A strand test is a sensible idea before full application, especially if you have lightened hair or want to judge how intense the burgundy tone will look on your base.
  • Always follow the leaflet precautions.
  • Be extra attentive if your scalp is sensitive or if you have reacted to hair colourants before.
