The colour from this tinting shampoo sits on the outer hair layer and washes out gradually, typically lasting 3–8 washes depending on how porous your hair is. On bleached, highlighted, or very gray hair the pigment grabs more strongly and can persist longer; on darker or less porous hair it fades faster. Most people use it once a week or every other wash to maintain a cool pearl tone, but you can adjust: if the shade looks too intense, skip a few washes and use a regular shampoo instead. Because it’s not a permanent dye, there’s no regrowth line — the effect simply softens until you reapply. Always follow the timing on the leaflet; leaving it on longer than directed won’t make the colour “stick” permanently but can deposit more pigment than intended, especially on light ends.

This product is a toner, not a permanent colour. On scattered gray hairs it deposits a cool pearl pigment that reduces the contrast between gray and your base shade, making the overall look more unified. The result is a softer, translucent veil — think “toned down” rather than “covered up.” If you have a high percentage of gray or want solid, root-to-tip coverage, a permanent or demi-permanent dye is the appropriate choice. On hair that is already light blonde or pre-lightened, the pearl tone will appear stronger and more visible on gray strands; on medium brown hair the effect is subtler, mainly cooling any brassiness while slightly muting the gray. A strand test on a hidden section (behind the ear or at the nape) will show you exactly how your own gray reacts before you commit to the whole head.

The formula is a tinting shampoo, not a reconstructive treatment, so it doesn’t repair bleach damage. However, because bleached hair is highly porous, it will grab the pearl pigment much more intensely than untreated hair — often resulting in a cooler, sometimes almost violet-tinged tone if left on too long. If your hair was lightened in the past two weeks, do a strand test first: apply a small amount to a damp hidden section, wait the minimum recommended time, rinse, and evaluate. If the tone looks good, proceed; if it’s too strong, shorten the contact time or dilute the shampoo with your regular shampoo 1:1. Avoid using it on the same day as a chemical service (perm, relaxer, fresh bleach) — give the scalp and cuticle at least 48–72 hours to settle. If your scalp is sensitive or shows any irritation, rinse immediately and discontinue use.

Like most direct-deposit toning shampoos, the wet pigment can temporarily stain skin, grout, acrylic tubs, and light fabrics. Wear the disposable gloves usually included in the box (or nitrile gloves from a pharmacy) during application. Apply the shampoo to damp hair in the shower, not over a bare sink, and rinse the stall or tub immediately after you finish — a quick spray with the handheld showerhead is enough. Keep a dark or old towel handy for blotting; avoid white or pastel towels until the hair is fully dry. If any pigment does land on skin, it washes off with soap and warm water within a day. On porous surfaces (unsealed grout, stone), a non-abrasive bathroom cleaner applied promptly usually removes any residue. Once hair is dry, the colour is set and won’t rub off on pillows or clothing.
