Shea butter (Butyrospermum parkii / Vitellaria paradoxa) is extracted from the seeds of the African shea tree (Karite tree), native to the savannah belt of West and East Africa (particularly Burkina Faso, Ghana, Mali, Nigeria and Ivory Coast). Shea butter is one of the most deeply nourishing and widely used cosmetic plant butters in the world, prized for its extraordinarily rich composition: it contains vitamins A, E, F (essential fatty acids) and a high proportion of unsaponifiable fractions — the cosmetically active fraction that contributes its unique skin-conditioning and moisturising properties.
