Comfrey (okopnik) root and leaf extract is one of the most traditional topical botanicals in Eastern European cosmetics for body care, contributing allantoin (a skin-conditioning diureid), mucilage polysaccharides, rosmarinic acid and hydroxycinnamic acids to the formula. Golden mustache (Callisia fragrans) is a succulent houseplant widely used in Russian folk cosmetics for its sap, which contains flavonoids, steroids (phytosterols), catechins and chlorophyll.
