Customer Questions
How long does the colour last and what makes it fade faster or slower?
The colour deposits on the outer hair layer and washes out gradually — typically over 3–8 shampoos, but this varies widely. Porous, pre-lightened, or grey hair grabs pigment more strongly, so the tone may look more intense initially and linger longer. On less porous, natural medium-brown to light-blonde hair the deposit is sheerer and fades quicker. Hot water, clarifying shampoos, frequent washing, and UV exposure accelerate fading; cooler water, sulfate-free shampoos, and less frequent washing help extend it. Because the product does not use oxidative chemistry, there is no permanent change to the hair structure — the colour simply lifts away as the cuticle is cleansed. If you want a longer-lasting refresh, you can repeat use every few washes; the 40 ml sachet is sized for roughly one application on shoulder-length hair.
Will this cover my grey hairs completely or just blend them?
This is a toning shampoo, not a permanent dye, so it does not penetrate the cortex to lock in colour. On grey or white strands — which are highly porous — the pigment deposits readily and can look quite vivid, often making grey appear as a cool or neutral blonde highlight rather than disappearing entirely. If you have a high percentage of grey, the overall effect will be a lighter, more blended look rather than uniform coverage. On scattered greys the contrast with your base shade is softened, which many people find more natural than a solid block of colour. For full grey coverage you would need an oxidative permanent or demi-permanent colour. A strand test on a few grey hairs is the only way to see exactly how the shade translates on your hair.
Is a strand test really necessary and how should I do it?
A strand test takes only a few minutes and prevents surprises. Mix a small amount of product (or use a few drops from the sachet) and apply to a discreet section — e.g. behind the ear or at the nape — following the same timing you plan for the full application. Rinse, dry, and evaluate the tone in daylight. This shows you: (1) how strongly your current porosity absorbs the pigment, (2) whether the resulting shade matches your expectation, and (3) if any irritation occurs. It is particularly important if your hair has been bleached, highlighted, permed, or chemically straightened recently, because those processes increase porosity and can cause the colour to turn darker, cooler, or more intense than on virgin hair. If the test strand looks too strong, you can shorten the processing time, dilute with regular shampoo, or decide the shade isn't right before committing to the whole head.
Can I use this on recently bleached or chemically processed hair?
Bleached, highlighted, permed, or relaxed hair has an open cuticle structure that takes up toning pigment much faster and more deeply than untreated hair. This means the colour can appear significantly darker, cooler, or more saturated than on the same shade of virgin hair, and it may also last longer. The scalp may also be more sensitive after chemical services. If you have processed your hair within the past two weeks, do a strand test (see above) and consider shortening the leave-on time — sometimes just 1–2 minutes is enough. Diluting the toning shampoo with your regular shampoo 1:1 can also give a softer, more controllable deposit. Avoid using on broken, irritated, or sunburned scalp. If you experience stinging, redness, or itching, rinse immediately and discontinue use. When in doubt, wait until the hair has recovered (typically 10–14 days after bleaching) before applying any tinted product.
How is this different from purple shampoo or permanent hair dye?
Purple (or blue) shampoo contains direct dyes designed to counteract unwanted yellow or orange tones — it is a colour corrector, not a colour depositor for a specific blonde shade. It won't make medium-brown hair look lighter or add a new blonde tone; it only cools existing blonde or lightened hair. Permanent oxidative dye uses ammonia (or an alternative) and peroxide to open the cuticle, remove natural melanin, and lock new colour molecules inside the cortex — the result is permanent until the hair grows out or is cut. This toning shampoo sits between the two: it deposits cosmetic pigment on the outside of the hair shaft while you wash, giving a visible but temporary tone shift (e.g. a fresher, lighter-looking blonde) without altering the hair's internal structure. It also cleanses in the same step. Choose purple shampoo if your only goal is to remove brassiness; choose permanent dye if you need lasting grey coverage or a permanent shade change; choose this product when you want a short-term refresh, a subtle blonde boost, or to test a lighter direction before committing.

What it is

Victoria Beauty Toning Shampoo Light Blonde 40 ml is a wash-in hair tint for hair shades from medium brown to light blonde when you want to revive the tone without committing to permanent dye. People usually choose this type of product to make the hair colour look fresher, blend early grey more discreetly, or try a lighter-looking blonde direction between full colouring sessions. It is especially practical when the lengths appear dull, faded or uneven after frequent washing.

How it works

The product works by depositing colour on the outer layer of the hair while you shampoo. Unlike oxidative permanent colour, a toning shampoo does not need to permanently alter the hair structure to create a visible result. Instead, the pigments attach more superficially, which is why the effect is temporary and can gradually fade with subsequent washes. This approach can help soften the contrast between your natural shade and grey strands, and it may also make blonde or lightened hair appear more expressive. On porous, pre-lightened or grey hair, pigment often grips faster and looks stronger, because the hair surface absorbs colour more readily.

When people choose it

What makes this format convenient is the combination of cleansing and tinting in one step. A small 40 ml pack is useful for single use, travel, or for checking how the shade behaves on your hair before buying a larger colouring product. For someone maintaining blonde or light brown lengths, it can fit nicely between salon visits or at-home colouring sessions when the tone needs a quick refresh rather than a full transformation. It may suit those who want:

  • a short-term colour update;
  • mild grey blending;
  • a simple way to add more depth to faded blonde.

Important notes

As with any hair colour product, the final result depends on the starting shade, porosity and percentage of grey hair. Lightened, very pale or grey hair can take the pigment more intensely, so a strand test is a sensible first step. Be sure to follow the leaflet precautions, and use extra caution if your scalp is sensitive or if your hair has been recently bleached or chemically processed.
