What is EMELJANOVSKAJA BIOFABRIKA Fermented Ivan‑tea with currants?
EMELJANOVSKAJA BIOFABRIKA Fermented Ivan‑tea with currants is an herbal tea drink made from fireweed leaves and currant leaves. People usually choose this kind of tea when they want a caffeine‑free warm drink with a fuller, rounder taste than plain herbal infusions. Fermentation is a controlled process that changes the leaf after harvesting, bringing out natural aroma compounds and giving the infusion a richer, more balanced flavor. Fireweed, also known as Ivan‑tea, has a long tradition in Eastern Europe as a soothing hot drink for quieter moments, especially for those who prefer herbal beverages instead of black tea or coffee. Currant leaves are traditionally valued in herbal teas for their bright, green fragrance and naturally occurring plant compounds, including vitamin C.
Key Ingredients and Flavor Profile
- Fireweed leaves – fermented for a deeper aroma and softer, less grassy character.
- Currant leaves – add a fresh, slightly fruity note and a bright green fragrance.
When to Enjoy It
- An evening cup when you want a warm, caffeine‑free drink.
- A break during work when coffee feels too strong.
- A gentle addition to your home tea selection during colder seasons.
How to Use
Steep the tea in hot water, allowing the flavor to open gradually. It can be enjoyed on its own or paired with light snacks.
Important Notes
- As a herbal tea, it is part of a balanced lifestyle, not a medical solution.

Customer Questions
Fermentation is a natural, controlled process applied to harvested leaves. Unlike fresh or simply dried herbs, fermented leaves undergo enzymatic changes that develop their flavor and aroma compounds. For the fireweed leaves (Ivan-tea), this results in a deeper, more rounded aroma and a softer, less grassy taste compared to non-fermented versions. The currant leaves also benefit, with fermentation helping to mellow any sharp edges and integrate their bright, fruity-green fragrance more harmoniously with the fireweed. The outcome is a warm infusion with a fuller body and a complex, balanced character that many find more enjoyable than a standard herbal tisane. This traditional technique is valued for turning simple garden leaves into a soothing, caffeine-free beverage for quiet moments.
For a well-rounded cup, use about one teaspoon (roughly 1-1.5 grams) of the tea blend per 200-250 ml (a standard mug) of hot water. The water should be freshly boiled and then allowed to cool for a minute to around 90-95°C (194-203°F) — very hot, but not a rolling boil, which can sometimes make herbal infusions taste flat. Pour the water over the leaves and let it steep, covered, for 5 to 8 minutes. The fermented leaves need this time to fully unfurl and release their deeper aromas. You can taste it after 5 minutes and steep longer if you prefer a stronger infusion. It can be enjoyed plain, or with a touch of honey if you like sweetness. The leaves can often be steeped a second time with good results, using slightly hotter water and a longer steep. Store the unused leaves in a sealed container away from light, moisture, and strong odors to preserve their fragrance.
This product is an herbal tea (tisane) made purely from fermented fireweed and currant leaves, so it contains no caffeine. It is described as a drink people choose when they want a caffeine-free warm beverage with a fuller, rounder taste than many plain herbal infusions. Its flavor profile—developed through fermentation—offers a satisfying depth that can make it a appealing substitute when black tea or coffee feels too stimulating, especially later in the day. It fits into moments like a quiet evening, a work break when you need warmth without a strong stimulant, or as a gentle option during colder seasons. As with any herbal product, it is part of a balanced lifestyle and not a medical solution. If you have specific dietary concerns, are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a high sensitivity to herbs, it's sensible to check its suitability for your individual situation.
