SATTVA Guggul capsules contain an extract of Commiphora mukul — a small thorny tree native to the dry regions of India, Pakistan and the Arabian Peninsula. The sticky resin that seeps from its bark, known as guggul or guggulu, has been used in Ayurvedic tradition for more than two thousand years and is mentioned in classical texts such as the Sushruta Samhita. SATTVA is an Estonian-friendly brand specialising in authentic Ayurvedic herbs in convenient capsule form, suitable for people who prefer to avoid the strong, bitter taste of traditional resin preparations.
The active value of guggul lies in a group of plant compounds called guggulsterones (mainly E- and Z-isomers), together with essential oils, lignans and natural gums present in the oleo-gum resin. In Ayurveda, guggul is classified as a warming, drying herb that helps balance kapha and ama — the heaviness and metabolic residues that are believed to accumulate when digestion slows down. Traditional practitioners have used it as part of programmes aimed at maintaining a healthy metabolism, joint mobility and a balanced lipid profile within normal ranges.
The capsule form has two practical advantages. First, it delivers a standardised amount of resin extract, so each dose is predictable. Second, the shell masks the characteristic resinous flavour, which many people find difficult to take in powder form. This makes guggul easier to integrate into a longer Ayurvedic protocol, where herbs are usually taken in cycles of several weeks rather than as a one-off remedy.
Guggul is often chosen by adults who follow an Ayurvedic approach to weight management together with diet and movement, by those who want to look after joint flexibility as they age, and by people interested in traditional herbal combinations such as Triphala Guggul or Yogaraj Guggul. It is typically taken with warm water after meals, in line with classical recommendations.
Please note: guggul is a potent herbal preparation and is not intended for pregnant or breastfeeding women, children, or people with thyroid disorders, bleeding tendencies or liver conditions. It may interact with medicines, including statins, beta-blockers, hormonal therapy and blood thinners. If you take prescription drugs or have a chronic condition, consult your doctor or a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner before use. A food supplement does not replace a varied diet and a healthy lifestyle.
