According to the label, this is a herbal tea: put 1–2 teaspoons of the bark in a cup, pour over boiling water, leave to steep for 10 minutes and strain. The label gives no other methods of preparation or regimens (gargling, baths, compresses, courses), so we do not give specific proportions, temperatures or durations for them.
Tannins are polyphenolic compounds that can bind proteins. On contact with a mucous membrane or the skin they settle on the surface and form a thin, insoluble pellicle. This film mechanically protects the nerve endings from irritants (acids, enzymes, bacterial toxins, friction), reduces swelling by constricting the blood vessels and temporarily lowers the permeability of the tissues. In practice it feels like an astringent, "dry" sensation in the mouth and a reduced sensitivity to pain in inflamed areas. The antioxidant activity of tannins lies in their ability to bind free radicals, which may help restore the integrity of the barrier. It is important to understand that the effect is local and reversible — the protective layer is washed away within a few hours. The product is a herbal tea for drinking; the label gives no instructions to use it on the skin or for gargling. With prolonged, frequent use, constipation or nausea may occur because of the astringent effect on the intestines — in that case reduce the dose or take a break.
Oak bark is a functional plant raw material with a pronounced astringent effect. Taking it internally is not recommended in acute stomach and intestinal conditions (peptic ulcer in an exacerbation, gastritis with low acidity, a tendency to constipation) or in case of individual intolerance. During pregnancy and breastfeeding, and for children, it may be used only after agreement with a doctor — there are not enough safety data for these groups. With prolonged regular use, tannins may reduce the absorption of nutrients and medicines, so it is better to take the tea and medicines at different times. If itching, burning, increased dryness or an allergic reaction appears after use, stop using it and contact a specialist. The product is not a medicine and does not replace prescribed therapy. According to the label, it is not used in case of hypersensitivity to the components and should be kept out of the reach of children.
