LAUMA medical compression knee-high socks in size 29–31 (black) are a graduated-pressure garment for the lower leg, designed to gently shape blood flow from the ankle upward. They belong to the orthopaedic and medical accessories category and are chosen by people who spend long hours standing, sitting, travelling, or simply feel heaviness in the calves by the end of the day.
The principle behind graduated compression is simple: the knit applies the strongest pressure at the ankle and gradually decreases toward the knee. This pressure gradient helps the venous system push blood back toward the heart, reduces pooling in the lower leg, and lessens the sensation of tired, swollen calves. The LAUMA knee-highs are produced as a medical-class product, which means the compression value is engineered into the fabric, not just a tight elastic feel.
The 29–31 size refers to the calf circumference in centimetres, so it is important to measure the widest part of the lower leg before choosing. A correct fit is what makes the garment effective — too loose and the gradient is lost, too tight and the knit cuts in at the top band. The black colour and classic knee-high cut make them easy to wear under trousers, work uniforms or skirts.
Typical scenarios where these knee-highs are useful: long working shifts on the feet (retail, healthcare, hospitality), desk jobs with little leg movement, long-haul flights or bus rides, pregnancy-related leg heaviness, and the recovery period after minor leg procedures when a doctor recommends light compression. Many people also use them preventively during warm weather, when veins tend to dilate and legs feel more tired in the evening.
Pull the sock on in the morning, when the leg is least swollen, and smooth out any folds — wrinkles in the fabric create uneven pressure points. Hand-washing or a gentle cycle keeps the elastic fibres intact for longer.
Compression hosiery is a medical aid, not a treatment for vein disease. If you have diagnosed venous insufficiency, diabetes, peripheral arterial disease, skin infections or open wounds on the legs, please consult a doctor or pharmacist before regular use, and follow their advice on the appropriate compression class.
