ALG Pharma Vitamin D3 50 µg (2000 IU) Capsules is a food supplement from the Estonian brand ALG Pharma, providing vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) — the naturally occurring, most bioavailable form of vitamin D — at 50 µg (2000 IU) per capsule in safflower oil carrier. Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) is synthesised in human skin upon exposure to UVB sunlight. In Northern Europe, due to the limited hours of direct sunlight for much of the year, vitamin D insufficiency is common, and supplementation is widely recommended. Each capsule contains 1000% of the EU Nutrient Reference Value (NRV) for vitamin D (NRV = 5 µg). The formula uses safflower oil (Carthamus tinctorius) as a lipid vehicle to enhance absorption of the fat-soluble vitamin D3. The soft gelatin capsules are convenient for daily supplementation.
EU authorised health claims for vitamin D (Reg. 1924/2006): Vitamin D contributes to the normal absorption/utilisation of calcium and phosphorus, normal blood calcium levels, the maintenance of normal bones and muscle function, and the normal function of the immune system.
