Hematogen (also spelled haematogen, hematogeen, gematogen) is a traditional sweet bar from Russia, Ukraine and the Baltic countries. It is a sweet bar, not a medicine: the base is sugar, sweetened condensed milk, syrup and food-grade black albumin (bovine). In our shop it is sold as a food product; some manufacturers label their bars as a food supplement, so check the pack. This page explains what it is, which hematogen bars Vitateka sells, and how they are delivered to EU countries.
What hematogen is
The name comes from the Greek words for "blood" and "to generate", and goes back to the late 19th century. Today it is a chewy toffee-like bar. According to the product cards in our shop, the usual ingredients are sugar, sweetened condensed milk, caramel or glucose syrup and food-grade black albumin; some bars add vitamin C, folic acid, vitamin B12 or flax seeds; the Vita+ Energy bar also contains taurine and caffeine. The exact ingredient list differs from brand to brand, so always read the label on the pack.
Hematogen is a sweet snack. It contains milk and animal-derived albumin (bovine), and some bars contain hazelnuts or may contain traces of them. The Vita+ Energy bar also contains taurine and caffeine. It is not a medicine, and nothing on this page is medical advice; if you have a health question, ask a doctor.

Spelling and search terms
The same product is written in different ways. In our shop search, customers have used: Hematogen, hematogeen (Estonian), haematogen (British English), hematogenas (Lithuanian), hematogens (Latvian, "hematogēns"), gematogen (transliteration of the Russian), and "гематоген" (Russian). All of them lead to the bars in the table above. Pantohematogen is a different product (a deer-antler supplement in capsules) and is not covered here.
