PÄÄSTERÕNGAS Tõrvapalsam 45 g is a tar balm for very dry, rough and flaky body skin. It is chosen when the skin feels thickened, uneven or prone to scaling and a regular body cream is not rich enough. The balm forms a protective layer that reduces moisture loss and softens hardened areas.
How it works
Its effect comes from a combination of occlusive and active ingredients.
- Petrolatum, lanolin and castor oil create a dense film that helps keep water in the upper layers of the skin.
- Tar oil and sodium shale oil sulfonate are traditional ingredients valued for calming the look of rough, problem‑prone areas and reducing tightness.
- Salicylic acid works as a keratolytic component, helping loosen and lift built‑up dead skin cells.
- Linseed acid, cod liver oil and glyceryl oleate add lipids that help replenish the skin barrier.
- Vitamin E and vitamin D3 provide additional skin‑conditioning value.
When it is used
People use this balm on small, stubborn zones such as elbows, knees, heels or other dry, scaly areas. It suits those who want a richer leave‑on product for targeted use, especially in cold weather or when the skin is exposed to frequent washing and harsh conditions. Because the texture is substantial, it is best seen as an intensive step rather than a light lotion.

The balm is intended for areas of dry, problem and flaky skin. Light creams on such areas are often absorbed too quickly and do not give the desired effect.
Tar oil and sodium shale oil sulfonate are ingredients with a long history of use in products for rough and irritation-prone areas. They are valued for their pronounced action, but in some people they can cause an individual reaction, especially at first use or on sensitive skin.
The balm is applied directly to the problem area with marked dryness, on dry, clean skin. Because of the dense texture, a small amount is enough: the product is not meant to be applied in a thin layer over large surfaces, like an ordinary lotion.
