Soopihla urt (Horst) is a dried herb of the marsh cinquefoil — Comarum palustre, in Russian known as sabelnik and in Estonian as soopihla urt. This wetland plant has been used in Northern and Eastern European folk tradition for centuries, mostly in herbal teas and infusions intended for people who feel stiffness in their joints, lower back or muscles after physical effort or as the years go by.

The marsh cinquefoil herb contains a natural mix of tannins, flavonoids, phenolic acids, saponins, essential oil and traces of carotenoids. Tannins give the plant its characteristic astringent character, while flavonoids and phenolic compounds are studied for their antioxidant behaviour — meaning they help neutralise free radicals that the body produces during inflammation and physical stress.
