Start with damp skin in the shower or bath. The salt crystals need a little water to glide over the body, but skin that is too wet will make the scrub dissolve too quickly and reduce the exfoliating effect. Take a small amount with clean, dry fingers and massage in gentle circular motions, spending a little extra time on elbows, knees, and other rough or dry areas. Use light pressure at first because the granules are coarse — pressing hard can leave the skin feeling red or sore, especially if you are new to salt scrubs.
Rinse well with warm water and pat the skin dry instead of rubbing. The formula blends coconut, avocado, sweet almond, and jojoba oils with Dead Sea salt, so you may notice a light emollient film on the skin after rinsing. That film is what helps the skin feel softer and more comfortable after exfoliation. You can apply body lotion afterward, but many people find that the oily residue makes it unnecessary.
A sensible starting frequency is once or twice a week. If your skin is sensitive or you are not used to granular scrubs, begin with once a week to see how your skin reacts. Daily use is too much for most people and can leave the skin stripped and irritated. Do not use the scrub on freshly shaved or irritated skin, and avoid any area with broken skin. If your skin is very reactive, test the product on a small patch such as the inside of your arm and massage very gently. Take extra care if you are thinking about using it on your face — facial skin is more delicate than body skin, so a scrub intended for the body is often too abrasive there.
To keep the product in good condition, close the jar tightly and store it in a cool, dry place. Keep water out of the container by scooping with completely dry hands or a dry spatula, otherwise the salt may clump or the texture may change.
