The gel-balm is applied directly to the troublesome area: the lower back, knee, shoulder, calf or another area where tension or discomfort is felt after exertion. A small amount of the product is spread over the skin and rubbed in with light massaging movements; this is important because the nettle in the formula has a local irritant action, which is enhanced precisely by mechanical action.
Glucosamine and chondroitin are substances widely known in the context of supporting joints and cartilage. In capsules or tablets they enter the body through the digestive tract and are distributed systemically. In the gel-balm these ingredients are used for external application: they are added to the formula to provide a targeted effect on a specific area rather than a systemic effect.
The gel-balm is designed for a wider range of situations than just recovery after sport. The formula contains arnica, a plant ingredient traditionally included in formulas for a tendency to swelling and marks after bruises.
