This product is a tinting shampoo, not a permanent dye. It works by depositing color pigments onto the surface of the hair shaft rather than penetrating the cortex and altering your natural melanin. Because of this, the chestnut tone you get is softer, warmer, and less drastic than a permanent color — think of it as a color refresh or a tonal shift, not a full transformation.
This shampoo is designed to blend visible gray strands rather than provide opaque, permanent coverage. On fine or porous gray hair, the chestnut pigment often deposits well enough to make grays much less noticeable after one use. On coarse, thick, or resistant gray hair — especially at the temples or crown — coverage will be more sheer and may require the maximum recommended processing time (usually 10–20 minutes, check the leaflet) and several consecutive washes to build up tone.
Most people use a tinting shampoo like this once a week or every 2–3 washes to keep the chestnut tone fresh.
