The key role here belongs to linoleic acid, an essential fatty acid that is part of the skin's own lipid barrier. In simple terms, this barrier works like a thin seal that helps keep water in and external stressors out. When the barrier is weakened, skin can become dull, uncomfortable and more easily irritated.

Dispense 2–3 drops into the palm, warm briefly between fingertips, and press onto slightly damp skin — this helps the oil spread in a thinner, more even layer and reduces the tacky feel. Because the formula is an oil, it sits on top of water-based serums but under heavier creams; a practical order is cleanse → water-based treatments (e.g. hyaluronic acid, niacinamide) → this oil → moisturiser or sunscreen (AM).
The ingredient list is intentionally short: linseed oil (Linum usitatissimum seed oil) and linoleic acid. There are no added fragrance, essential oils, or common sensitizers like alcohol denat. That simplicity lowers — but does not eliminate — the risk of a reaction, because even pure plant oils can trigger contact dermatitis in people with specific lipid allergies or a compromised barrier.
This product is a lipid-only formula: it supplies linoleic acid and the emollient fatty acids from linseed oil to reinforce the skin's barrier and reduce transepidermal water loss. It does not contain humectants (glycerin, hyaluronic acid, panthenol, urea) that draw water into the stratum corneum. Therefore, on its own it seals in whatever moisture is already present but does not add hydration.
