Sodium fluoride (the fluoride active agent, at a concentration safe for daily cosmetic dental use) contributes to the prevention of caries (tooth decay) by promoting remineralisation of the tooth enamel surface through fluorapatite formation, which strengthens the enamel mineral structure.
