Castor oil is distinguished from all other common cosmetic plant oils by its uniquely high ricinoleic acid content (approximately 85–90% of fatty acid composition). Ricinoleic acid — the principal active component of castor oil — is a C-18 hydroxy fatty acid with exceptionally high viscosity, outstanding moisture-binding properties and distinctive skin-softening and hair-conditioning cosmetic effects. In skin care, castor oil provides deep nourishment and intensive softening of dry, rough and flaky skin areas, contributes to visibly smoother skin texture and helps reduce the appearance of fine dry lines. In hair and lash care, regular application of castor oil contributes to visibly stronger, shinier, better-conditioned hair and lashes with a glossy, smooth appearance.
