Camphor Ointment 10% is a topical cosmetic preparation with camphor (Camphora) as the primary active ingredient at 10% concentration, formulated in a classic petrolatum (vaseline), paraffin wax and anhydrous lanolin ointment base. Camphor is a bicyclic monoterpenoid naturally occurring in the wood of the camphor laurel tree (Cinnamomum camphora), characterised by a distinctively sharp, penetrating and cooling/warming aromatic quality. At 10% concentration in an ointment base, camphor provides a pronounced warming counter-irritant sensory effect on skin application, alongside its characteristic cooling and aromatic notes. The anhydrous lanolin base provides emollient, skin-softening and film-forming properties for sustained application. The ointment base — petrolatum (54%), paraffin (8%) and anhydrous lanolin (28%) — ensures a stable, occlusive vehicle for the camphor active that adheres well to skin during application.

Customer Questions
How strong is the 10% camphor sensation, and how long does it last on the skin?
This ointment gives a classic camphor progression: a brief cool note when first applied, followed by a noticeable warming feeling and a sharp herbal aroma. At 10% camphor, the sensation is on the strong side compared with milder warming creams, so if you have never used a camphor product before, it can feel surprisingly intense in the first minutes. The mechanism behind the feeling is what pharmacists call a counter-irritant effect: camphor stimulates surface nerve endings, and the brain focuses on those warming and cooling signals from the skin rather than on the original sensation in that area. The effect is sensory and local — it is not a medicinal action. How long it lasts varies from person to person, but the formulation is designed to extend it: the dense petrolatum and paraffin base spreads slowly and forms a film on the surface, so the camphor stays on the applied area longer than it would in a light, fast-absorbing cream. In practice this means one modest application usually carries the sensation for a reasonable while without needing to reapply. If you are trying it for the first time, start with a very small amount on one area — you can always add a little more, but a strong camphor feeling is hard to tone down once it has started.
How should I apply this ointment for rubbing tired muscles?
A little goes a long way with a 10% camphor concentration. Take a small amount — roughly a pea-sized dab per area is a sensible starting point — and rub it into intact skin over the spot that feels tired or strained. The anhydrous lanolin in the base gives the ointment a softer, emollient slip, which suits a slow massage-style application to areas like the elbows, knees, shoulders or lower back.A few practical points:Rub in circular motions until the ointment is distributed evenly; because the base is dense, it takes a bit longer to work in than a light cream — that is normal and part of how it stays put.Keep it to specific areas rather than large surfaces of the body. This is an occasional, targeted product, not something intended for all-over use.Wash your hands thoroughly after applying. Camphor residue transferred to the eyes, nose or mouth is very unpleasant, so this step matters more here than with ordinary body creams.Do not apply near the eyes or mucous membranes, and avoid touching your face until your hands are clean. There is no need to cover the area with anything afterwards — the petrolatum-paraffin film already keeps the camphor in place on its own.
Who should not use this ointment, and are there any precautions?
This is a product for external use only, and a few groups of people should either skip it or be careful:Broken or irritated skin. Do not apply it to cuts, scrapes, freshly damaged or inflamed skin. Camphor on compromised skin can sting sharply and cause unnecessary irritation.Lanolin or wool sensitivity. The base contains anhydrous lanolin, a wool-derived emollient. People allergic to lanolin or wool products may react to it, so check this before use.Infants and small children. Camphor should not be applied near the face or nose of babies or young children. Store the tube out of their reach as well — the strong smell can attract curiosity.Reactive skin. If your skin tends to react to active or fragranced products, test a very small area first (for example, the inner forearm) and wait to see how it responds before using it on a larger spot.If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have a chronic skin condition or use prescribed topical medication, consult a specialist before adding a strong camphor product to your routine.
Is the texture greasy, and will it stain clothing?
Yes, this is a genuinely rich, occlusive ointment rather than a lotion. The base is built on petrolatum and paraffin, which makes it dense, slow to spread and leaves a visible protective film on the skin. That film is intentional — it holds the camphor on the applied area instead of letting it evaporate or absorb away quickly — but it does mean the treated spot stays slightly greasy for a while.Practical consequences worth knowing:Clothing: like any petrolatum-based product, it can leave greasy marks on fabric. Give the ointment several minutes to settle before dressing, or apply it in the evening when you can wear something you do not mind marking. Greasy spots on fabric usually come out with a pre-treatment of dish soap or a degreasing stain remover before a normal wash.Removal from skin: plain water will not take it off. Use warm water with soap, and repeat if needed; an oil-based cleanser also breaks down the film effectively.Consistency and storage: petrolatum-paraffin bases firm up in the cold and soften in warmth, so the texture may vary slightly with room temperature. Keep the tube closed and away from heat to preserve the camphor aroma. If you prefer products that vanish into the skin without trace, this format will feel heavy — the density is a deliberate trade-off for a longer-lasting camphor effect.

Planeta Zdorovia Camphor Ointment 10% 25 g is a topical warming ointment chosen when a person wants a strong camphor sensation on the skin: first a slight cool note, then a noticeable warming effect and a sharp herbal aroma. Products of this type are often used for local rubbing after physical strain, for tired areas of the body, or simply when a warming texture feels pleasant in colder weather.

How camphor works on the skin

The main active is camphor 10%, a fragrant substance traditionally obtained from the camphor tree. On the skin, camphor acts as a counter-irritant: it stimulates surface nerve endings, so the brain pays attention to the warming and cooling signals from the skin rather than to the original sensation in that area. This is why camphor ointments are known for their distinctly active feel. The effect is sensory and local, not medicinal.

The base and its role

The base ingredients shape how the ointment behaves:

  • Petrolatum and paraffin create a dense ointment that spreads slowly, stays in place well and forms a protective film on the surface, helping the camphor remain on the applied area for longer instead of disappearing too quickly.
  • Anhydrous lanolin gives the formula a softer, more emollient feel, which many people prefer for massage-style application to elbows, knees, shoulders or the lower back.

Who it suits and how to use it

This cosmetic ointment may suit adults who like classic warming balms and want a simple camphor formula without a long list of extras. It fits best as an occasional topical product rather than something for all-over use. Apply only to intact skin and keep the amount modest, because 10% camphor feels quite strong.

Important notes and cautions

  • This is for external use only.
  • Do not use on broken, irritated or freshly damaged skin, and avoid the eye area and mucous membranes.
  • Because it contains lanolin, it may not suit people with wool or lanolin sensitivity.
  • Camphor should not be applied near the face or nose of infants or small children.
  • If your skin is reactive, test a very small area first and wash hands well after application.
