Camphor is a bicyclic terpenoid compound extracted by steam distillation from the wood of the camphor tree (Cinnamomum camphora), characterised by its distinctive, intensely penetrating, cool and slightly medicinal aroma. It has been used for centuries in traditional topical preparations across Europe, Asia and the Americas.
