Bom-Benge is a topical warming and cooling ointment formulated with two complementary active ingredients: methyl salicylate and menthol. Methyl salicylate is a naturally occurring ester of salicylic acid found in the essential oil of wintergreen (Gaultheria procumbens), widely used in topical preparations for its characteristic warming and counter-irritant sensation — it acts by stimulating warmth receptors in the skin, producing a sensation of localised heat that is commonly associated with post-sport or post-activity muscle comfort. Menthol is a natural cyclic terpene alcohol derived from peppermint oil, providing the characteristic cooling and refreshing sensation that complements the warmth of the salicylate, creating a combined warming-cooling sensory experience. The ointment base provides effective penetration and adhesion of the active ingredients. For topical cosmetic use on skin.
25 g tube. For external use only.
NET QUANTITY: 25 g
INGREDIENTS (INCI): Methyl Salicylate (Methylis Salicylas), Menthol, Petrolatum (paraffin/vaseline base) (see product label for full INCI list).
USE: Apply a small amount of the ointment to the skin in the area of discomfort. Rub in gently until absorbed. Use as required, up to 3–4 times per day on the affected area. Wash hands thoroughly after application.
WARNINGS: For external use only. Do not apply to broken, irritated or damaged skin. Do not apply to the face or near eyes and mucous membranes. Do not use with tight occlusive bandaging on the application area — increased systemic absorption of methyl salicylate may occur. Bom-Benge topical ointment by Tula Pharmaceutical Factory is a classic warming-cooling skin ointment that people often choose after physical exertion, long hours in one position, or when a local area feels tense and heavy. Its effect is based not on masking the skin, but on creating a distinct sensory response: first coolness, then warmth. This change in sensation can make the applied area feel easier to move and more relaxed.
The formula combines menthol and methyl salicylate. Menthol activates cold-sensitive receptors in the skin, which is why it gives that fresh, cooling feeling almost immediately. Methyl salicylate, a salicylate compound traditionally associated with wintergreen oil, works differently: it acts as a counter-irritant, meaning it stimulates the skin’s surface receptors and creates a warming sensation. When these two effects are paired, the result is the familiar hot-cold effect found in many post-activity balms and ointments.
Another practical point is the ointment form. A petrolatum-based texture stays on the skin longer than a light gel, so the active ingredients are released gradually while the area can also benefit from a soft occlusive layer. This type of texture is often preferred for massage into shoulders, neck, back, calves, knees, or other small local zones after sport, gardening, travel, or desk work. It suits people who want a stronger sensory effect than a standard cooling gel provides.
Bom-Benge is best seen as a topical muscle and joint area ointment for occasional use on intact skin, not as a medicinal cure. Because it contains a salicylate, extra caution is important: avoid using it if you are sensitive to aspirin or other salicylates, do not apply it to broken or irritated skin, and do not use under tight bandages or over large body areas. Keep it away from the eyes and wash hands well after application. Children under 12, pregnant women, and anyone unsure about combining salicylates with their usual regimen should check with a healthcare professional first.
