Stevioside is approximately 250–300 times sweeter than sucrose by weight, meaning that tiny quantities of stevia extract provide the same sweetening intensity as substantially larger amounts of sugar, without the caloric load of conventional sucrose.
Unlike sucrose, stevia glycosides are not metabolised by the oral microbiome and do not contribute to dental plaque formation.
