LEOVIT Stevia Sugar Substitute Tablets are a tabletop sweetener product providing stevia extract (stevioside, E960) as the sweetening agent in a convenient pressed tablet format. Stevia (Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni) is a plant of the daisy family (Asteraceae) native to South America, the leaves of which contain a series of diterpene glycosides — principally stevioside and rebaudioside A — that are responsible for the plant's intensely sweet taste. Stevioside is approximately 250–300 times sweeter than sucrose by weight, meaning that tiny quantities of stevia extract provide the same sweetening intensity as substantially larger amounts of sugar, without the caloric load of conventional sucrose.
Unlike sucrose, stevia glycosides are not metabolised by the oral microbiome and do not contribute to dental plaque formation. The tablet format makes it convenient to sweeten individual cups of tea, coffee, or other beverages at the table without measuring powders.
