The bark and root bark of Uncaria tomentosa contain a complex mixture of alkaloids — principally oxindole alkaloids (mitraphylline, isomitraphylline, rhynchophylline, pteropodine, isopteropodine and speciophylline) — along with tannins (proanthocyanidins), quinovic acid glycosides, phytosterols and polyphenols, providing the characteristic phytochemical profile of this botanical. The lozenge format allows the tablet to dissolve slowly in the buccal cavity, which facilitates direct mucosal absorption of the active compounds. Formulated without dyes.
