Shungite is a mineral of dark, almost black colour with a characteristic texture: the surface may be matt or have a slight natural shine, depending on how the particular stone is processed. It is not an artificial material or a dyed stone; the colour and texture are natural.
An oval shungite pendant is first and foremost a personal accessory, which people choose for various reasons. Some value the natural stone as an element of their look, while others see it as a small amulet or a reminder of their own intentions and practices.
Shungite is a porous mineral, so it is sensitive to prolonged contact with water, aggressive detergents and cosmetics. It is recommended to take the pendant off before showering or bathing, and before applying perfume or creams: chemical components can gradually change the surface of the stone.
